These are classic presentations of issues with the vestibular system, the inner ear. The vestibular system can become unbalanced for a number of reasons including upper respiratory infections, osteoarthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, and neck/head injuries among other causes. Physical therapists are uniquely qualified to treat these conditions with vestibular rehabilitation techniques to refine eye gaze stability, improve balance, and reduce symptoms of nausea and dizziness with head movements.

Trigger point dry needling
A technique used to reduce muscular tension. When there is a trigger point in a muscle, the tissues can’t contract or relax properly leading to sensations of aching, tightness, and weakness. We insert thin, sterile needles into trigger points to release the tightness and allow the muscle to function normally. Dry needling can restore correct functioning and reduce pain. It is also a very useful technique to release tight muscles around nerves that might be causing numbness and tingling!

Pain Neuroscience Education
PNE is at the forefront of our understanding of pain as a medical community. Did you know that pain is an output from your brain and not an input from your body? This means that you feel pain only when your brain decides something is threatening. Based on this notion, injury is not the only cause for pain. Understanding why and how you feel pain is a major component of healing. Once you learn what your body is trying to tell you, it is a lot easier to get to the root cause of your pain which will give you lasting relief.
